03. Showcasing Your Work

Showcasing Your Work

This lesson so far focused particularly on conversational product pitches that you would use at networking events or in job interviews. They also work well when you're writing blogs or chatting on Slack.

A great product pitch can get you far with an employer, who cares most about your approach to solving problems and how you would go about building robots.

However, your words have to be backed by actual work, or else your promising ideas fall apart. Actual work can be the physical prototype, but is more than likely going to be in the code or research you write.

GitHub Review

In the next lesson, Udacity's deep learning expert and content developer, Mat Leonard, walks you through the components of an employer-friendly GitHub profile. If a recruiter or engineer goes to your GitHub, what would they want to see? What is going to prompt them to email you and ask if you're interested in a phone interview?

After you've gone through the lesson, submit your GitHub profile for a personalized review. The project helps ensure your repos are consistent and clear (which is vital when working in a team!), that you follow best practices for collaboration, that you effectively communicate the amazing things you've built, and that you are actively programming.

It's important to get this reviewed now. If you plan to apply to jobs in six months, you want to make sure you have a 6-month GitHub history of best practices to show employers. As GitHub experts will tell you, you can't - and shouldn't - rewrite history.
